HERP
COSTA RICA'S
OSA PENINSULA

with Bill Lamar

August 19 - 26, 2006

Crocodiles, Iguanas, Sea Turtles, Sea Snakes, Poison Dart Frogs, Eyelash Vipers, Bushmasters, Central American Lanceheads!

The Osa Peninsula..... That's right...the part of Costa Rica with the best wilderness areas, the most beautiful scenery, and some world-class herping!! This is a land of great experiences just waiting to happen- -a land rich in herps and natural history. If you've longed to see a Poison Frog, glowing brilliant in a sunspot on the rainforest floor----if you've wondered what it would be like to see a crocodile in the wild---or discover an Eyelash Viper or Bushmaster on a night collecting trip---or parrots, toucans, and a host of other great creatures, then this is the trip for you!!

Join Bill Lamar, internationally celebrated herpetologist and tropical outdoorsman, for an unforgettable jaunt through lush forests and sparkling beaches in Costa Rica. Bring your binoculars and cameras and loads of film, and be prepared to relax like never before. We'll spend our time on the Osa Peninsula on the Pacific coast. The Osa is one of Costa Rica's largest wilderness areas, a wild and gorgeous place packed with plant and animal diversity.

After overnighting in San José at a fine hotel, we'll fly to the Pacific coast and board our boat to reach Marenco Biological Station, one of the finest spots on the Osa Peninsula with Corcovado National Park... the wildest place in Costa Rica. From our base at this beautiful lodge, we'll sample the surrounding forest via day and night walks, collecting herps (later released), observing and photographing the abundant reptile and amphibian life...and anything else of interest. We'll also visit Isla del Caño, a pristine island reserve 10 miles offshore. There we'll see herps, pre-Columbian artifacts, and the spectacular fish life (it's a great place to snorkel). With luck, we'll catch a seasnake or two and see some sea turtles and pilot and gray whales. Optional (and often spectacular!) offshore fishing can be scheduled.
