Haven't you always wanted to herp the tropics? Especially so with the coaching and support of a real expert herpetologist? Some really exotic place like the Amazon, with lush jungle and beautiful rivers....lots of snakes, frogs, lizards....and besides the herps... the parrots, pink dolphins, monkeys, and so on? Well, here's your chance to do all that and more. And what's so great is that you can do it in a relaxed atmosphere, aboard a comfortable boat with great food and the companionship of other herpers just like yourself.
After flying from the States to Iquitos, Peru, we will transfer to GreenTracks' chartered riverboat. We depart Iquitos or Nauta on the Amazon heading to remote areas to begin our herp hunting.
We'll explore the rainforest and look for herps by day and night. Nighttime herping in the Amazon is a blast, and frequently we'll find unusual herps we could never hope to find by day. We'll poke around the forest at our leisure in the search for interesting reptiles, amphibians, birds, monkeys, and cool invertebrates.
What kind of herps can you expect to see?.... Cool Treefrogs and Poison Dart Frogs, large Iquanas and Caiman Lizards basking in trees, Tree Boas after dark, maybe even an Emerald, Anacondas, Boa Constrictors, Rainbow Boas, Caiman, Turtles and Yellowfoot tortoises, Bushmasters, Lance-heads and Coral Snakes, and more.
Count on seeing around 75 species or more of herps, with Poison Frogs (Dendrobates) and treefrogs high among them. The snake fauna of the region is spectacular, with around 90 species total, so keep your fingers crossed...each trip offers surprises!
Photo opportunities abound, and we'll make some sets with natural materials onboard for those who want photos of the herps.
During the week, we'll also take in a village or two...looking at how locals live and bartering for handicrafts.
Don't miss out on such a great herping opportunity!
