Manu National Park, Peru
Due to the Rainy Season, the Manu National Park programs are NOT available December through April.
Three itineraries that take you deep into Manu National Park for a stay at Manu Wildlife Tent Camp.
Manu National Park is located in the provinces of Manu and Paucartambo (Departments of Madre de Dios and Cuzco respectively), comprising lands on the eastern slopes of the Andes and on the Peruvian Amazones. It protects some of the Earth’s most important wildlands: Andean grasslands, elfin cloud forest, and lowland Amazon rainforest.
The park contains more species of animal and plants than any other part of the world: 1000 species of birds, 13 species of monkeys (including the mustached Emperador Tamarin), several species of macaws and parrots, the Harpy Eagle, Tapir, the endangered Giant Otter, Black Caiman and the impressive Jaguar.
In addittion, Manu National Park is also home to indigeanous tribes, some of them yet uncontacted. Manu National park was Internationally recognized as a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme in 1977 and it was placed on the World Heritage List in 1987. GreenTracks is one of the few tour operators to offer programs in this area.
For wilderness enthusiasts, we recommend boating far up the wild Manu River to stay at the new Manu Wildlife Tented Camp near Cocha (Lake) Salvador, the largest and most beautiful of the 13 oxbow lakes of the Manu River. This itinerary offers excellent opportunities to observe flocks of beach-nesting birds and to search for a Jaguar lurking on the riverbank.
The Wildlife Tented Camp features screened, hermetically-sealed, double-occupancy, walk-in tents with hinged, lockable doors and solid wooden floors. Each tent measures 16.5 x 10 x 7 feet (5 x 3 x 2.2m) and the floor is elevated above the ground on wooden stilts. Each of the extra-long twin beds in each tent has a mosquito net. Our camp also features an elevated, screened dining room with wooden floor and a separate complex of shared hot-water showers and flush toilets. For those who prefer not to venture out at night, each tent has a private enclosure equipped with a sturdy, plastic-and-metal camp toilet. View Photos of the Manu Tented Camp
